You may have heard the term “rack and pinion” when referring to power steering. Power steering systems use intermediate electric and/or hydraulic devices to reduces the effort necessary to steer the front wheels of the vehicle by multiplying the force applied by the driver through the steering wheel to achieve a smooth and quick directional change of the vehicle.
There is no definite time frame on when to change power steering fluid. It is generally recommended that power steering fluid be replaced every four years or after running the vehicle for 50,000 miles.
