MOT Testing: The very first MOT test requirement comes into effect only when the new car is three years old. Prior to that, there is no obligation for the vehicle to be tested. Every vehicle over three-years-old must have a current MOT test certificate which must renewed annually. It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to ensure that it is examined annually.
Engines can and do break down and moving parts wear out, that is just a fact of life! The standard everyday car is referred to as a reciprocating engine, which is something we rarely think about. Many of the engines components operate at very high speed and temperatures, particularly the pistons, piston rings, rods and bearings, which all need to be replaced with new parts – hence the need for a regular MOT test.
Luckily, modern engines are designed to cope with these demands and the parts that usually wear out the quickest are those that are generally the easiest to replace.
