MOT Testing

MOT Testing

MOT Testing

MOT Testing: The very first MOT test requirement comes into effect only when the new car is three years old. Prior to that, there is no obligation for the vehicle to be tested. Every vehicle over three-years-old must have a current MOT test certificate which must renewed annually. It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to ensure that it is examined annually.

Engines can and do break down and moving parts wear out, that is just a fact of life! The standard everyday car is referred to as a reciprocating engine, which is something we rarely think about. Many of the engines components operate at very high speed and temperatures, particularly the pistons, piston rings, rods and bearings, which all need to be replaced with new parts – hence the need for a regular MOT test.

Luckily, modern engines are designed to cope with these demands and the parts that usually wear out the quickest are those that are generally the easiest to replace.

Engine Diagnostics

Engine Diagnostics

Engine Diagnostics

Engine Diagnostics: Carrying out an engine diagnostic allows for the collection of data to repair the vehicle by identifying why the engine may not be functioning properly and repairing the damage. Generally speaking, an engine diagnostic machine is plugged into the cars’ computer. if the engine is in fine working order, the device will say so or, alternatively, if there is a problem, a code (or several) will be displayed.

Our professional mechanics can carry out a thorough diagnostic procedure, using the latest industry standard tools and technology to diagnose the issues that could have caused a warning light to come on in the car. Carrying out an engine diagnostic means the mechanic gathers data so as to repair the vehicle wherever necessary and identifying why the engine may not be functioning properly and to avoid irreparable damage. The computer returns a diagnostic code that can be used as a reference against a list of codes from the vehicles’ manufacturer.

Scheduled Servicing

Scheduled Servicing

Scheduled Servicing: Vehicle services are designed to identify any issues a car may have before any repairs or part replacements are carried out. A car service is not a legal requirement, but manufacturers recommend the vehicle be serviced on a regular basis to keep it running smoothly for as long as possible. Experts agree that your oil and filter should be changed anywhere between 3,000 to 6,000 miles, depending on the age of your vehicle and the type of oil that is used.

Another factor to consider when servicing a vehicle is an emissions test, which determines the level of air pollutants emitted from the exhaust of a motor vehicle. Most vehicles have their exhaust emissions tested as part of the MOT. Usually, they’re tested using a meter. The objective of an emissions test is to measure that the vehicle’s emissions are in line with the legally permissible amount and help reduce the amount of pollutants that are harmful to the environment. The gases tested for are Carbon Dioxide (CO2) which is a greenhouse gas and substances like Carbon Monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), oxides of nitrogen (Nix) and particles which impact the quality of air we breathe.

Brakes & Tyres

Brakes & Tyres

Brakes & Tyres

Brakes & Tyres: Your brakes and tyres are the most important safety system in your vehicle. Brakes give you the ability to slow down or stop in an instant and can help you avoid a serious accident. Brakes that aren’t well maintained and regularly inspected can let you down when you need them most! Your tyres are the connection between the road and your vehicle meaning they are very important for vehicle safety and fuel efficiency.

Because the wheels are constantly being shifted as you make turns on the road, uneven wear and tear must be corrected periodically. From a financial standpoint, this can be a difficult decision for you, but it’s important to trust a certified repair centre to provide a long-term plan for wheel care that will save you money down the road. Tyres that look perfectly round and symmetrical when new, actually have minute imperfections in both shape and weight distribution and can be as much as 3mm thicker on one side than the other. As the tyre tread wears down, this mass imbalance can become even more pronounced. Tyres are initially balanced when they are mounted on your vehicle, but periodic re-balancing is necessary.

Steering & Suspension

Steering & Suspension

Steering & Suspension: Simply put, power steering is what helps you turn the steering wheel with ease and is definitely, one of the best innovations in cars since the invention of the wheel. It has only been around for about 50 years or so and was originally only used in luxury vehicles. However, over the years, this modern-day application has gradually been implemented into all vehicles and has improved greatly since its’ inception.

Without power steering, your arms would likely rival those of a Greek god. This system changes the ease of steering and enhance the feel for the driver. You may have heard the term “rack and pinion” when referring to power steering. Power steering systems use intermediate electric and/or hydraulic devices to reduces the effort necessary to steer the front wheels of the vehicle by multiplying the force applied by the driver through the steering wheel to achieve a smooth and quick directional change of the vehicle.

There is no definite time frame on when to change power steering fluid. It is generally recommended that power steering fluid be replaced every four years or after running the vehicle for 50,000 miles.
